This is a bubbling battle/ battle song as I said somewhere in the forum...
Hear it for yourself, it is not professional music, but certainly not easy to make. Also, you might not like it. I suppose giving it a shot wouldn't hurt...

ok, right... uhm, yes no I didn't like it. To me, it lacked a "classic" structure or theme too much. Sounded more like random soundbits that are interleaved in some form (which maybe defines a good bubbling battle song, how would I know). But I believe you when you say it isn't easy to put something like this togheter.
I think I'll stick to bubbling champagne instead... |

hmm it sounds like an intro, it's constantly building up to something...
Actualy it reminds me of something like this
But that's more 'UK Grime' music.
Anywayz, I always thought bubbeling was more light bleepy music with playmobile drums, glad this proves me wrong |

I still don't understand where bubbling came from. Especially in the Randstad, bubbling suddenly popped up everywhere. The hype has ended (fortunately!), but still lives in its own scene.
Can someone therefore please enlighten me on the how and why of bubbling? Sampling fragments of other songs, double-pitching them and layering them on top of plastic-sounding Squarepusher-beats does not make much sense to me.
[Oh well. Acid techno also doesn't make sense to my grandparents.] |

i´ve heard this story:
a dj at a dancehall party accidently played a dancehall record on 45 rpm instead of 33. people liked this sound (people who've never owned a record player always love this) and began making this stuff at home.
when you're talking about squarepusher type beats inge (although squarepusher's stuff actually makes sense), you're talking about what is known as 'battle', i'm not sure why people developed this style, but it's meant to dance kind of 'electric boogie' to. i can go into explaining why (i think) 'battle' elements are a part of the (know known as) urban culture (breakdance battles, mc battles, turntablism battles, 'crossing' someones piece or tag or whatever they call it), but i won't, i'm far too tired. i probably missed/misused a couple of comma's and dots too btw. |

It indeed lacks structure and theme a lot. That is because this one is actually simple. It was for the first round of some contest, so I didn't give it my all. Besides that, it has not an overall theme, it are just three different parts. The transitions are so simple, you can't even call 'm transitions. The intro's for the three parts have been made without much care also. In other words, this one isn't quite THE thing. If I have one that is worth calling a real song, I'll post it here

Yes, random soundbits interleaving is what it will sound like the first time you listen to it. The thing is that it aren't quite random soundbits. In general the song exists mostly out of loops. Looping loops with variation and breaks. Maybe this could help you finding the form you were looking for ..
But I believe you when you say it isn't easy to put something like this togheter.

@ QBical
Every part has it's own intro and outro. There actually should be an intro and outro for the whole song, but I wasn't in the mood to do that, lol

The bubbling that you heard during the hype there is commercial bubbling. This kind of bubbling actually sucks big time, cause the effort most bubbling composers put into their tracks is zero. Bubbling isn't anymore what it is supposed to be. It was much better before it became populair. So it has much more depth then you probably think
I'll tell more about bubbling another time |

I have no clue what the **** 'bubbling' is, but as a battle it's a good start, albeit a bit lacking when you've raised the bar this high with drill-breakage here and there. The tracking is too repetitive to live up to what I feel it aspires to be. Great fun, but needs a lot more work IMHO. |
Fucking awesome music for ninjas in space and shit |

Sunbuster talked about a Theme...
I think a red thread is missing, as it is now; it is so full of different mixes that there is nothing to fall back on that catch and attracts/binds the listener to the song.
You got a lot of good samples to work with, but you need to build up a structure around it too, if you want my vote on it. However, I might be dead wrong on this subject, as I have not grown up with this kind of music at all in my youth...

ok, right now I'd just love to know who came up with the word bubbling to describe this kind of music.

Bubbling (bubbelen of bobbelen), is more the style of dance. (it's a really girly dance, the art of twisting boodies).
The rhytm of bubbling is quite simular to "tambu" an old antillian slavery dance ...
The music is a mixture of ragga/reggae played at 45 RPM instead of 33 RPM (As Walter already said) mixed with hip-hop influences ... This speedy syle is invented in the Netherlands and is also called "the Mickey Mouse Style" (DJ Moortje is the inventer, per accident) ...
In Holland Bubbling is still somehow populair (even in the dutch Urban scene) K-liber is on of the dutch groups who still produces (commercial) bubbling.(http://www.k-4life.com/index2.html)
Even some Gabber songs (komtie dan he, Darkraver ) are using bubbling drum patterns ...
In short i think it's funny music, but no structure and gets boring very fast IMHO(although i like the twisting girl boodies part alot )... But hey that's only a matter of taste ...
