"Not I," said the confectionary.

Not NitroTracker, anyway. PSPKick? For a twelve track drum-machine-based music tool, it's an awesome little program, and it comes with a neat sample pack too. Thankyou, homebrew community and downgraders!

Next up, PSPRhythm. That 303-esqué Bass Line synth looks rather fancy. :}}}

PSPRhythm is awesome.

There's 15 samples and a saw/square synth to choose from, each with their own volume, panning, sample start/end parameters, and four octaves to play at. You've got 16 patterns at your disposal, but for each position (the maximum is 512), each channel can be switched on/off or set to a certain volume, so there's room for variation.

For each pattern there's 16 steps, with four steps per beat. The 16 buttons along the bottom control how the sample is played, each with a light above. Tracks 1-15, a red light means that the sample will play normally, green light will play the sample twice, the blue light plays the sample in reverse, and of course, no light means no play. Track 16 however, the saw/square synth, is slightly different. A red light plays for the step that it's on, a green light will tie the previous note, and the blue light has three modes of it's own, where it will play either an Accented note, a Slide note, or both.

The sample kits can also be replaced with your own. Good news!

The controls are a little confusing at first, and it isn't completely documented, but once you figure out how to switch to the next pattern (go into Song mode, move to the next position with R, press X on one of the 16 buttons at the bottom, then press Triangle to select/preview the pattern. Then go back to Pattern mode and voila!), it's a breeze.

The two pattern modes control how you want to edit the patterns: Classic controls the volume and panning on a global scale, whereas Extended alllows you to control the parameters for each step individually. So, if you're smart with your sounds, you can get a full track out of PSPRhythm.

...I haven't gotten very far with it yet, what with my sample-filled laptop being repaired. I have been having fun with the PSPRhythm 2.1 Daft Pack, though.

The best part for graphic fiends: It's skinnable, and easily at that! Seven graphics, all 32-bit PNG with Alpha. Two things that can't be skinned are the bottom-row buttons, and the font. However, the font color can be changed. I know I'll be having fun with these graphics, there's one skin in there that I absolutely must replace.

HISS SPIT--REASON SKIN, BE GONE YOU PRICEY DEMON FIEND! >:|

If you're looking for music on the PSP, PSPRhythm's the one to go for. It works on 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 Firewire, so you don't have to worry about compatibility issues.

*BLATANT POST EDIT*
E. Firewire. There is no M in Firewire. I keyboard type good.

NitroTracker for the Nintendo DS... Because I don't have a Nintendo DS, I used the next best thing - An emulator. It's early days for DS Emulation though, so there aren't a lot of good working ones around. In fact, I found four. Two of them wouldn't download for me.

Only one was compatible with NitroTracker. Dualis.

It took a little bit to get this one started. The emulator gave troubles with loading samples (it couldn't load from subfolders), and the only samples NitroTracker had were Little Sound DJ samples. Nevertheless, after a little playing around, I had a nice simple four-pattern chip going.

Note: The emulator wouldn't save out, dispite what NitroTracker said, so I recreated the little tune in MadTracker.

Visually, it's easy to navigate and use. Something that really holds it back is the tracker font. It's way too small, and the colors make it even harder to see.

16 tracks, XM support (with the exception of effects), full-working BPM and Speed, all the usual tracker stuff. It needs some retuning ("H" is not a musical note \:|), but overall it's easy to work with, music-wise. Basing it off FastTracker II was a good move. :}}}

We are pleased to announce the release of PSP RHYTHM 5.0.

PSP Rhythm 5.0 is a homebrew music application which has 4 distinct features. The first is the sample sequencer which enables you to arrange standard .wav file samples into beats, rhythms, and melodies in pattern format. Sample control includes FLAMS, REVERSE, PITCH, VOLUME, BALANCE, START TIME, and END TIME. These parameters can be stored with different settings on each step providing you the ability to make very complex music. The second feature is a realtime Roland TB-303 bass line style synthesizer which can be played along with the sample sequencer. The bass line synth has all of the original synthesizer's controls, such as ACCENT, SLIDE , CUTOFF, and RESONANCE . The third feature is the NEW EFFECTS UNITS which include DISTORTION, SLICER, DELAY, LOWPASS FILTER, and MONOMODE. These effects can be combined for some extensive audio manipulation. The lowpass filter is special because it can be controlled per sound via PATTERN mode which essentially gives you control of up to 15 separate sample filters! The final feature is a song mixer where you can chain up to 512 patterns together along with mixing each individual sound volume per song step (much like a mixing desk). Once you have created your audio masterpiece, you can render it to a .wav file for listening or outside processing. PSP RHYTHM 5.0 has grown to be a full audio production suite in the palm of your hand.

Probably not possible with firmware 2.7, no. Or is the homebrew-stuff already updates for versions higher than 2.5?

As far as I know, it's been impossible to downgrade since 2.6, and they've fixed the GTA Game Save exploits with 2.7.

Question is, what's the point of having the option to play games from the memory stick, if Sony keeps on doing everything to prevent gameplay from the memory stick from happening?
