Synthpop tune..

I made a tune for a record company and their search of synth pop tunes for this autumn .. They thought it sounded ok, but did not have enough "hit potential" ..

.. well, I don't know, but here it is anyway. I've used MT2 for most of the drums.

I really like this song, - it has great atmosphere! And very clearly you've been working with fitting in the vocals, and not just the melody itself.

Personally, I would prefered another Bass sound, as I think the one you are using now is not really working and degrading the overall impression of the song.

Songwise I would say it also reminds a bit of the work by Phil Collins on the 1980-90s. Smile

Wow... I'm stunned!
This is an incredible piece, with well integrated lyrics and a great atmosphere. This is i fact one of the best tracked songs I've ever herd.

There is but one thing that I miss and that is a more powerful snare.

Great job! Very Happy

I liked this tune alot!

Here are some reflections:

* I think the vocals is a little low.

* The vocals are to simple and frankly not the best I have heard (still good though), I should have tried experimenting with them a little.

* All the sounds fit very nicly together

Nice work!

I'm just listening to your track right now.
I kinda understand what that record company said. The sound is excellent, the voice more average (but as the voice is only a demo vocal, it is no problem) but the problem is that there is no extremely catchy melody you can sing along all day long.

So I'ld say that this one definitely has the *sound* a hit record should have but does not have an as good *melody*.

This doesn't mean it's bad, not at all. I like it a lot, if only it had a catchier main melody, it would for sure have been a hit (Some melody lines, especially the synth line at the very end of the song, are really excellent, but the main melody is much more average).

Thanks for the reviews and your listening time! Smile

@Frazze:
Well, sorry to disappoint you, but it's not 100% tracked music. The only tracked parts of it is the drums minus the part which made with the VSTi Drumatic 3 ..

Still, the power of MT2 allowed me to easily make the drumlines I wanted.

The rest is a blend of new and old hardware synths.

i really like this track. i wasnt sure at first but its grown on me.
i think rewriting it as an electro track, with harder synths and a 4/4 beat would give it dancefloor appeal, although that is my taste. the actual melodies are really really good with a retro-contemporary (is there such a thing?) feel to them.
i think the comments the record label made are probably true, its not got a hook to draw the listener in straight away, but having listened a couple of times it gets better and better.
maybe try a rewrite?

cheers

umm... it is....

oh C-Frog. Cool tune

good intro but i felt really let down when the lyrics came in. I feel that vocally you should start on a lower note and work your way up. then you can build more momentum throughout.

also. DONT HIDE THE SINGING!!!! thats probably the biggest reason that it wasnt hit material. lyrics need to be crisp and clear.

as a musician myself, i am always trying to make my music very noticeable (every piece that makes the song) sometimes you need to add things very subtely, like the pads for instance.

the music sounds a bit 'jazz jackrabbit-esque' hehe. cool

oh yah. if i ever get a chance.. could i possibly try to rewrite this one? I'll sing it if i do...

The vocals were indeed a bit under mixed, but I made it listen to some producers here without telling them what that Swedish label said to c-frog, and their opinion was exactly the same : Great sound, but lack of catchy melody.

This could make *the sound* even better, BUT a good song is precisely a song that does *not* need a lot of FX & pads to work. Basically, if it works as a piano/voice or guitar/voice track, it will work whatever the arrangement, and if it doesn't, it won't even if you add thousands of FX.

In other words, this would only improve what's already good in your track, without improving it's weak points.

Like the song, great work. In general it is good, but as many other have noted, donīt hide the song. Sing out loud Laughing .

Would also like to hear more song like this... electronic music is best when it also sounds electronic.

but using the arrangement that he had, i was only saying that all the parts of the music except the lead instruments should be a bit lower. It gives the song room to breathe, it also adds more dynamic.
