Well, I just made this song, and I would like to know what you guys think about it. Most of you who heard a couple of songs from me wouldn't expect something like this I guess, but it was an experiment and I think the experiment succeeded. I just need your opinion, so I can improve myself in this genre.
NOTE: It is not a very good .mp3 conversion, I know. I am not a registered user of MadTracker yet, but I will be. I converted this song first to .xm, .xm to .wav and .wav to .mp3. The original version is done MadTracker2, and sounds better than this crappy conversion.
If this isn't alowed, please tell me now, then I won't do this again anymore. But I promise I will buy this program when I get my salary (if it is enough), I just wanted the opinions of people that didn't have .mt2 (friends).
And now I have told to much, just listen..

Feedback follows later. First a small comment on your approach on exporting music.

Isn't it easier to use the .ogg-export function of MadTracker 2.6? 112 kbps with vbr is actually a quite nice quality, since at 128 kbps vbr most people don't hear the difference anymore between the original wave and the lossy file. |

Wow, a reply!
Thanks Inge! *hihihihihi*
Well, the thing is that I haven't installed 2.6 yet (because I'm a lazy bastard, y'know? ) and only today I've heard you can convert to .ogg with 2.6...
So I think it's about I started downloading the newer version! |

I haven't got a clue what your regular style is, so I can't judge if you made any progress or did something spectacular.
The track itself is okay to a certain extend. You perform some Squarepusher'ish tricks and combine a nice set of drums, basslines and sawsynths, although I think this song too be to blunt and too unbalanced. A real theme is missing, there's no headknodding drive behind it, and it doesn't contain enough twisting you-didn't-see-that-coming AFX-moments to keep me interested.
I'd say: go and check out Aphex Twin's Drukqs for a brief lesson in drum programming, do some Dom + Roland - Industry for fundamentals on elektronic darkness, and get a hold of Matrix's Sleepwalk for a crash course in balanced drum 'n bass production. |

Thanks Inge and Frazze!
My interpretation of Drum and Bass is indeed a bit based on Squarepusher's and Aphex Twin DnB style. I think they're both great artists (I like Aphex Twin) and think Druqks is one of the best electronic music album's ever made. I love the story the album tells. It tells about darkness, happiness, plain weirdness but also calm stuff.. It's hard to explain, but those of you who heard it should know what I'm talking about.
Even though AFX is one of my inspiration it wasn't my intention to make a 'AFX sound'. I do think I need to learn more similar AFX techniques to improve my own sound.
At first I was trying to make a Skyvaard (he's also a tracker) sound but it turned out to be something like this.
Thanks for your critics, I will keep them in mind. |

Wow!
This could suit to a modern Martial Arts Film like Blade or Matrix (the fighting scenes).
Well done....I like the drumset a lot.
But I have to agree....a maintheme like a lead synth is missing.
The melody is good at 2:03 but IŽd have put some reverb on that synth.
The Intro and outro sounds really kinda offbeat but this also could be just a specific style, so some might like it and some not.
All in all a good track but I think it should be remastered again cause some parts are a bit too loud.
But keep it up ! |
