Can't finish ANYTHING!!!

As a few of you know, I have a TERRIBLE time finishing a song. It's gotten so bad, lately, that I have trouble even starting songs, just because I know I won't finish them. This blows chunks. Anyone have any tips/tricks that can help me out?

Yes. Just keep on making stuff, stop focusing on finishing stuff, make music for the sake of making it, and save everything in some garbage folder. 1: they're fun to listen back once in a while, 2: they help you experiment and gain experience, 3: they might lead to nice ideas that you can use later on, and 4: some ideas might turn out to be fruitful and worthy to expand.

In my experiment (back in the days that I still made music), I always knew immediately which tracks would be worth turning into something finished. Nevertheless, that was approximately 1 out of 100 attempts. It's normal to start things that aren't good enough to inspire you to continue them. Don't worry: it's part of the job.

heres one for you jimm. i have 700 unfinished tracks from the last 2 years, and countless others from before that. as inge said its all practice, every time you make a new track its experimenting and learning new tricks.
lately i was going through an unispired patch, couldnt make a tune to save my life, but had loads of great ideas for production. so i went back into my old experiments found a tune i liked from about 4 years ago and built on that. the track is getting released in a month or so in the US and europe. it just goes to show that every track you make has a purpose, whether it is teaching you something or waiting for you to turn it into a complete track.

anyway, enough pep talks, get back to work my young apprentice. Very Happy

cheers

andy

Beverending songs

I've posted new topic, for all "neverending MT2 files".

·LINK: http://www.madtracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2579

Maybe put some of your files there, I think it's a good form to give to others trackers "new ideas", and other trackers can help you with some MT2.
----
I think all trackers have un-finished works, MT2 files, or similar, ((ex: I only have 4 MT2 files finished made on this year, and maybe 40 un-finished!! [[without "only2pattersMT2"]] ))
----
And, appart from that, I think that we have to share all this un-finish work with other trackers.

OR!

You can grab your lousy ideas, glue them together into a lousy deformed mass of sound and call that experimental and call people old-fashioned if they don't get it.

when i started out i usually got pissed of the amount of unfinished songs so i had to delete them in order to regain my enthusiasism for making some music - prolly this can work for you too Smile nowadays, however, i just let them reside in the garbage folder.

just do what you feel right and everything's gonna be right =)

I usually have a break for a couple of days, weeks sometimes even months. In between I make experimental songs, and I think I have made over 300 crap files in the 2 years I've been tracking.

Just start a new song, there's always some element in it you like.

In addition...

I got a great tip from Any the other day: Just put all the ideas and stuff into one MT file, and when feeling inspirated just choose a bit and start from there, in that way u can choose the moment of arranging without thinking of new stuff. And u don't have to bin alot of files 2 Smile

Anyways i thought it was a great tip !
