Hello, my name is Francis . I've been screwing around with madtracker for a few years now, I love it, making dance music is awesome ha I'm so crazly interested in making some drum and bass music though.
I learned a lot about how to make music through madtracker but I dont know.. somehow I find creating drum and bass is difficult on madtracker (though i have little experience doing so as of yet), and I'm needing some general help on how you can (if you do).
It seems like a way too general question, i know. But, any kind of information is helpful, or tips and what not ha music programs that may be more powerful tools, where i could find some cd's of sound librarys that would be dnb fit (lots of snares and cymbals and high hats, etc...). The dnb composing is a mystery to me. I can tell you I understand how a break beat sounds and feels, i just dont know enough though to produce one. I'm not a collage student in the arts or anything, but I understand how mucis works. drum and bass elludes me...
This specific question may be easier to answer, but more complicated to describe.. Suppose you listened to Evol Intent, Pendulum, or Noisia. The basslines are crazy. That's all I can say, hear them, you will agree. They fluxuate the bass in many ways. I cant describe it because I'm not sure what's going on, but I'm hoping someone could explain how they produce such wicked shit!! feedback is much appreciated |

Hi Francis,
yeah, drums is not a big deal in MT but basses can be a real challenge mostly because it's usually some crazy envelopes/automation play with parameters of the VST-plugins-chain after you wrote your bass line. I'm not telling it's impossible in MT, but it's for sure easier in the "mainstream" DAWs. I must admit that I don't use MT for D'n'B anymore. It can be also useful to use some MIDI-controller with faders so you can "MIDI learn" some parameters and so experiment with the sound much faster. Akai MPD24 should be ok. However it depends on how "sick" do you want your bass to sound. For some tracks it may be ok just to set oscillators and some other parameters right and than use it w/o any changes all the track long, but for those Noisia/Spor/Phace/... basses you are talking about you will need some fast "reese fingers" (in Spor words) for sure.
As for the sample libraries, you can take a look at the "David Carbone Drum and Bass Masterclass" library.
For reese bass I use Hotelsinus Reese Bassline (it's free BTW), for bass - Massive and Hydra (ex-Junglist). Massive is also good for the sub-basses.
You can take a look at some videos I found for you on YouTube:
Akai MPD24 in action (however not for the purpose I've described):

Some well-known dnb artists showing some techniques (Subfocus shows creating bass sound with Massive BTW):

You can also search YouTube for "dnb tutorial", there are many of them.
Well, my response was kind of chaotic, sorry for that, for my bad english and in advance for not being able to answer in the next 2-3 weeks.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!
