hi mate,

i had a couple of listens to your track. first things first, it aint bad at all. it took me longer than 3 months to get to where youre at now.

suggestions for improving:
firstly, get some new samples, the drums and the instruments are pretty low quality. try some of the sample sites listed in this thread: http://www.madtracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=50
you should get using vsts early as well, there are loads of really nice free ones and the sound you can get from them is really good. try this page:
http://www.madtracker.org/plugins.php

i dont know what style you were going for exactly, but im not a big fan of the sound (thats just a matter of taste though).
good points are you have a fairly good (albeit simple) structure which is extremely important.
your melodies etc are all in tune which is good, you could try varying the drums. there are some good sites you can get drum loops from which would be worth checking out to see how beats are put together. try http://www.breakbeat-paradise.com/samplesite/bb_drumloops.php

anyway, youve made a great start to composing and the more practice you get the better youll get. my tip is to get into vsts as soon as possible (both effects and instruments), they make a huge difference.

cheers

andy

With Andy. Especially for someone who just started, this is quite a splendid effort. It probably fits in the game-music genre, which also isn't my personal favourite, but the melody is quite okay. I would quite easily survive this while playing a rpg or point-and-click some years ago. To add one advice to the (excellent) one's by Andy: try to make each pattern a unique one. Make small changes with drums, short effects with sounds, implementation of track fx's (for instance, flange, filter off or reverse the last 16 bars of your beats at a pattern) or whatnotmore. Keep the listener interested from beginning to the end.

Yep, shows promise.

My notes:

- I get irritated at the crash, in fact at the drums in general
Like Inge said, try to make every pattern unique. That goes for drums also
- Like Andy said, get better samples and start learning VST's.
- I like the atmoshpere in the track, sort of dark medieval.
