I'm beginning to wonder if the track isn't perhaps compressed a bit too much, and this would be the root of the "problems"?

I agree - did you compress the second version differently (more) I wanted to check against the first version but its been overwritten. As far as I remember the first version had way more presence.

Looking forward to your next version!

I know little of trance, but I do know that there is one track that features everything xiphiuz, Sunbuster and Martin (apart from the vocals) mention, namely Ferry Corstens remix of Barbers Adagio for Strings. For the sake of comparison I've uploaded it. It contains this gorgeous pushing bassline, very tight high frequencies that give incredible power to the drive and speed, and excellent transparant sound. Every sample and percussion is easily recognizable, but they still create a tremendous unity. Have a listen and see if it helps to understand where the problem stems from:

1st: this ferry track is analog mixed on a topaz mixer!
2nd: you are right: one of the best trance tracks.
3th: don't think we can achieve this with mt2. maybe with mt3 (better audio engine, better plugs then as well i guess)

i think a lot of the problems which have been mentioned are caused by one thing. when we originally wrote the track everything was about 4 half-tones lower, which meant the bass was bassier, the lead fatter, the perc stood out better etc. i transposed everything up to fit the vocal (rather than pitch shift the vocal down and make it sound like a girlyman).
anyway thanks everyone for your support and help on this track it really is greatly appreciated. we'll hopefully have some time to work on it further tommorrow and of course will post our results.

thanks once again

andy
