new piece, rock style

Ok...I bear my soul to you, now. This is the first track I've written in several years, and my first MadTracker track, so please be nice. Smile It's a basic, straight-ahead, mainstream rock piece--100% tracked. Samples are from various places; VSTs used include: Freeamp2 for guitar distortion, Helian Bass for bass amp, and Classic EQ, Classic Reverb, and Classic Master Limiter.

I would love to see any and all comments about it, especially in terms of how to improve the mix. I just finished the piece so it is untitled right now.

Enjoy!

Hey, thanks--that means a lot coming from you. I admire your work. I guess it does have a 70s classic blues/rock kind of feel, doesn't it? I'm heavily influenced by bands like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Van Halen, etc., so that's probably why.

As for the drum samples, I got them from this website:

http://www.kara-moon.com/

Go to "free stuff" and "sample pool." The drums that I used are all done by Yppse--he/she has uploaded multiple packs of WAVs for just about every piece of a drum set that you can imagine, each of which has samples of the drum being hit in many different ways. Very, very high quality stuff. I spent many hours going through these sample packs and creating .XI instruments in MadTracker. And I still didn't exhaust all the possibilities.

Thanks for the comments, XnmE.

You're welcome and thanx.

I can hear it. It reminds me Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple stuff. Song is more complex from my own rock/metal music. Very good guitarwork. I can hear oldskool sample based guitar tracking if im not wrong. In a few moments guitar sound like from Slayer VST, but in other parts i hear sample work and tracker efects like portamentos etc., i dont think you can do it with any guitar vst. Sound could be better ( i mean - more realistic), but its still tracked music and i like it. Good ideas and high skill. I must listen to this song with headphones when im back home.

Thanx a lot. I must give it a try. It sounds fresh to me. Im a bit bored with drumkit from hell.
About drumparts, i like these parts much too, not just a sound, they are really very well done.

Is it possible to publish the MT2 file?

It's there--I posted it a couple of weeks ago. It's still the last post in the thread. I think I tried to do a direct link to the sample page in the post, though.

Awesome. Thanks! I'm glad you like it. I really appreciate the compliments. I feel like my creative juices have been restored, so I may have to write some more music in the coming weeks. Really this track started out as an experiment, but I liked the sound and just kept adding to it.

You're right about the old-school tracking--the piece is all tracked, but I was pretty pleased with the results. The crunchy rhythm guitar sounds pretty authentic to my ears, but you're right--there are places where the lead guitar especially really has a tracked sound. As you said, it's hard to get the tracker effects (like the portamentos) to sound 100% realistic. It's the difference between a completely smooth slide and sliding across a fretboard.

But, I do have to say that I don't play guitar (or drums, or bass), so this is as close as I've ever come to hearing what's in my head come out in a song. One day I'd like to learn to play, but I just haven't had the chance.

Again, thanks--that means a lot to me. Today I was listening to my Houses of the Holy album (Led Zeppelin), and it's funny--I realized that a lot of my drum parts imitate John Bonham, so, in a way I guess you could say that I learned from the best. Wink

Definitely! I'll upload it tonight or tomorrow and then post the link to this thread. One question--do I need to provide links where you can download the VSTs, or how exactly does that work?

this is cool, the guitars are very convincing. i think it would sound cooler with a stronger snare.

Thanks, guys. Bigandymac: I agree with you about the snare--it is a little bit weak. I've thought about processing it to see if I can make it a little louder, or maybe lower the tone or something.

Anyway, XnmE requested a link to the MT2 file, and here it is:

http://www.wikiupload.com/download_page.php?id=117845 (the download link is there, it's just hidden--look on the right side of the screen)

The file is pretty large just because I never thought I would be sharing the MT2 file, so I didn't bother compressing or otherwise cleaning up any of the drum samples.

Enjoy!
